What started in 2000 as a simple domain registrar company over 20 years became a worldwide known hosting company, offering its customers an extensive selection of services. Their data centers are located in the US, UK, and Europe.
Overview
A head start of 20 years allowed NameCheap to slowly grow and evolve, adding more functions and perfecting already existing ones. Now, it’s a household name, with giants like Imgur and Privacy.com using NameCheap services. They provide a full package of services: Shared, VPS, dedicated server hosting, even reseller, and WordPress hostings.
Listing all of the features they provide will probably take a few pages, but here’s some of them, site, logo, card makers, email services, VPN, SSL certificates, etc.NameCheap provides its own, very compelling and extremely exhaustive knowledge which covers a whole ton of different topics, issues, and problems.
Support
4.0
Unusually so, NameCheap shifts its support to the clients, offering them an exhaustive knowledge base, filled to the brim with helpful articles, tutorials, guides, and howtos. There are a few ways to contact the support department, through an online chat and by filling a feedback form or a ticker. The latter options can be lengthy, almost forcing you to use a knowledge base. And you have to make an account before contacting support
Live chat introduces tags so the person on the other end can identify your problem quicker, or assign an appropriate specialist.
Reliability
4.5
Security and Stability are everything for Namecheap, especially for a company that has been around for nearly two decades. And to achieve an unrivaled amount of security they implement a variety of software for example SSL certificates, DNS services, VPN, 2Factor Authentication, Domain lock, DDoS protection, and various custom security settings you can customize.
User Friendly
3.5
Over 20 years of experience gave them not just a head start, but time to develop and improve everything, from the quality of service to site design and adding more and more features.
But these years of service could be a downside, for example, NameCheap’s website is overfilled with information, making some inexperienced or first-timer users feel overwhelmed.
The company presents itself as a budget hosting, and indeed it is so. Everything can be customized and finetuned to exactly your needs and budget. Although some additional paid features are strangely locked from lower-cost plans and are only accessible with higher ones.
Features
5.0
NameCheap offers both a reseller(SSL too!) service as well as an affiliate program, with later being powered not only by one but three partners: Commission junction, Impact Radius, ShareASale.
- You have an option to choose different levels of server management;
- SSD drives are available, but for US servers only;
- Versatile Email service;
- Numerous features and additions;
- Unix OS and Windows OS are supported;
- Automatic backups;
- Shared hosting comes with a NameCheap’s website builder.
Unfortunately, the free control panel is not provided, and you’d have to include them in your plan.
Pricing
4.5
NameCheap is a budget company, and so their prices are appropriate and below market average, starting from 3.88$ for shared hosting. Some of the services include a free trial option. Refund policy is a long read, includes every nuance and term.
The payment can be made in several currencies like USD, EUR, British pound, Canadian and Australian dollars, etc. NameCheap accepts payments through PayPal, Bitcoin, American Express, Discover, and bank cards directly.
